Here's an afocal shot of Venus that I took from my front yard on 12/28/13 using a 6" f/8 Orion SkyQuest Dob and a Canon PowerShot SD980 IS camera. Venus had an apparent diameter of 57.6 arc seconds and was illuminated just 6.2% at the time.
The photo displays a bit of the color indicative of atmospheric prismatic dispersion.
