About DaveMitsky

I began stargazing when I was a young boy and bought my first telescope, an Edmund Scientific Space Conqueror Newtonian, when I was 12 years old. Since then, I've done quite a lot of observing. I've looked at thousands of celestial objects through literally hundreds of different telescopes. While I was in college, I considered majoring in astronomy, but I ended up taking a different path. Currently I am active, both as a participant and moderator, on a number of Internet astronomy fora and am a member of the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg (where I've served as vice president, trustee, publicity chairman, and key course instructor, among other positions), the Chesmont Astronomical Society, and the Delaware Valley Amateur Astronomers. I've also been a member of the Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County and the Rockland Astronomy Club. Over the years, I've been to numerous star parties and astronomy conventions, at last count 22 of them, throughout the United States and abroad and am a regular attendee of the Stellafane ATM Convention in Springfield, Vermont. Some of my accomplishments in the field include the discoveries of a number of lunar sunrise and sunset light rays and contributing a chapter to a book in Patrick Moore's Practical Astronomy Series entitled "Astronomy with Small Telescopes". I was also one of the proofreaders for the fourth edition of Phil Harrington's "Star Ware".
