Arp 297 consists of a couple pairs of galaxies in Bootes. NGC 5754 (UGC 9505, PGC 52686 and others), the spiral at the center of the image and NGC 5752 (PGC 52685 and others), the spiral with the long, tidal tail are around 206 million light-years away. NGC 5755 (UGC 9507, PGC and others), the distorted spiral above NGC 5754 and NGC 5753 (PGC 52695 and others), the galaxy above and to the west (right) are around 426 million light-years away. While Arp added these to his ‘Galaxy Groups – Long Filaments’ class, these two pairs just appear to be close based on our view.

360 minutes total exposure – 6 hours
Imaged May 17th, 18th, 19th and 27th, 2021 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm.
