I took this afocal photograph of the 8-day-16-hour-old Moon on 2011/5/11 using a Canon PowerShot SD980 IS camera, an Orion SteadyPix Deluxe Camera Mount, a 2" 55mm University Optics Plössl eyepiece, and the Astronomical Society of Harrisburg's 17" f/15 classical Cassegrain. The flooded crater Plato (109 kilometers) lies to the lower right of the image. Montes Alpes and Vallis Alpes (the Alpine Valley) lie to the left. To the upper left are Archimedes and the small craters Autolycus and Aristillus. The small crater Timocharis is near the top of the image. Lunar south is to the top.
