A revisit to my partial penumbral eclipse images from Aug 6/2009 finally yielded a further interesting result. The application of a non-linear curves adjustment in Photoshop helped highlight the very subtle difference in the brightness of the moon during "maximum" as compared to Pre-P1 and which characterized the area at Tycho and below which had been immersed into earth's penumbral shadow.
The need to apply such an adjustment reveals how subtle the original dimming was and how difficult, if not impossible, it would have been for a human eye to notice.
