This morning, members of
Astronomy’s staff had the great pleasure of seeing Tom Polakis, our longtime contributing editor, as he and his wife, Jennifer, made their way through Michigan and Wisconsin visiting family. Tom has contributed numerous articles to
Astronomy over the years, including the extensive series of deep-sky observing pieces collectively known as the "
Celestial Portraits" series, which covered the whole sky and ran for several years. It’s always a delight to see Tom and Jennifer — I’ve known Tom since I was about 19 and producing
Deep Sky Monthly, and he was a contributor to it.
The last time I saw the Polakis family was quite accidental — running into them at the Ming Tombs outside Beijing, China, of all places!
We enjoyed a great visit with Tom and Jennifer and came away with some great ideas for the future.
Now Tom and Jennifer are off to see the Milwaukee Brewers! Play ball!
