The portion of Granite Gap dedicated to geology, rocketry, aircraft, and other activities for kids of all ages is Shoemaker Discovery Park, named for the late astrogeologist Eugene M. Shoemaker. David Levy was a friend of Shoemaker’s and, with Gene and Carolyn Shoemaker, discoverer of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9. Here David describes his experiences with Gene and talks about how much Gene would have liked to see such a park come to fruition.
