This solar astrophotograph reminds me of the Balrog from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth trilogy (can't remember which volume). You can see him glaring at you with his fiery eyes, brandishing his glowing whip in his right arm, with his dragon's tail curving off to the other side. This is Active Region 875 in h-alpha, via 3RF's SolarMax 90 scope, a 2.5X Televue Powermate and a DMK 21F04 firewirecam. This is about 310 frames from an AVI file of 1500 frames, in monochrome.
Made from my backyard in Garland, Texas, on April 30, 2006.
