Dark nebula Barnard 361

Barnard 361 (or LDN 970) is located between the North America Nebula and M39 in Cygnus. Distance estimates put this one between 1,200 and 1,800 light-years away.

The open cluster above B361 is IC 1369 (Collinder 432) is a class I 1 m cluster located approximately 6,700 light-years away.

East (left) of IC 1369 is Sh1-89 (PK 089-00 1) is a small planetary nebula approximately 6,400 light-years away.

Luminance – 12x600s – 120 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2

240 minutes total exposure – 4 hours

Imaged from Dardenne Prairie, Missouri (a red zone) on September 3rd and 4th, 2016 with a SBIG ST-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT90DT at f/6.7 603mm.

B361 is part of the Astronomy League’s Dark Nebulae program. IC 1369 is an object in the Open Cluster program.
