The Tulip Nebula (Sh2-101)

The Tulip nebula, cataloged as Sharpless 2-101, is an emission nebula in Cygnus located about 8K light-years away. The gas is energized by ultra-violet radiation from the bright blue star near the center of the field. This image is a composite of hydrogen-alpha and LRGB, taken with a 12.5" PlaneWave CDK telescope and a Quantum Scientific QSI640ws camera at f/5.2 Images were taken across two nights in September 2014 for a total integration of about 7 hours.
