Our nearby galaxy is one of the marvelous sights of the southern sky. First spotted by Persian astronomers and afterwards by Amerigo Vespucci, but it was by Ferdinand Magellan on his voyage in 1519 that brought it to popularity.

Like many irregular galaxies the LMC is very rich in dust and HII regions. Right now is under a intense process of star formation activity.

The image was taken in November 2010, 110 km away from Buenos Aires.Argentina in a relative dark sky. Carl Zeiss Jena 135 mm lens stopped at f5.6 with QSI 583 WS and Astronomik filters. 80 minutes total exposure time.
