When I was a teenager, I had the great fortune to meet one of the go-getters in the astronomy hobby, Norm Sperling. In the late 1970s, Norm was an assistant editor at Sky & Telescope, and he provided the first national exposure for my handmade journal, Deep Sky Monthly.

In the years since, Norm has taught astronomy at various universities in the Bay Area, founded and operated the creative company Everything in the Universe, co-designed the magnificent Astroscan telescope, and edited that devilishly funny humor magazine for scientists, The Journal of Irreproducible Results.

I ran into Norm again recently when he visited Milwaukee, and I have to share his great journal with you.

If you’re not familiar with this publication, I urge you to check it out.

It is the ultimate nerd joke fest, and every scientist and astronomy hobbyist will howl from the phony papers the magazine publishes. It is really one of a kind, and you need to see it to appreciate it.
