The Astronomy Foundation, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit outreach group started by telescope industry members, has had a busy year. It has gained nonprofit status and now seeks fundraising. It held an annual meeting at the Northeast Astronomy Forum in New York in April. It has a set of objectives that will commence soon to support astronomy outreach with a variety of star-party-related services.

And now the group has added two important members to its board of directors. Joe Lupica is the former CEO of both Celestron and Meade Instruments, and he had the original idea for the Astronomy Foundation. Now in retirement, Joe will help guide the board to accomplish some important tasks in the telescope industry.

Dean Regas, outreach astronomer at the Cincinnati Observatory Center, is a well-known proponent of outreach astronomy who is familiar to many through his cohosting of the syndicated astronomy program Star Gazers since 2010.

Joe and Dean join Rick Hedrick, Karen Jennings, Scott Kardel, Vic Maris, Mike Reynolds, Craig Weatherwax, and myself on the AF’s board.

Please help me welcome them!
