I have a two-part trip to New York City looming, after a few days of finishing our magazine’s annual budget. Next weekend I’ll be speaking at the New York/New Jersey Mineral Show, having been graciously invited by my friend, mineral expert Justin Zzyzx.
I will join a nice lineup of speakers and will be delivering “Minerals on Earth . . . and Beyond,” next Friday, April 10th, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 11th, at 5 p.m. I will talk a little bit about the Moon and Mars, as well as the great examples of planet building (i.e. mineral specimens) we have on our planet.
The event will be held at the New Jersey Expo Center in Edison, New Jersey, just outside the city.
Many distinguished mineralogists will be on hand, along with numerous dealers, and other talks will include “Mining Adventures in Kazakhstan” by Jolyon Ralph; “Lesser Known World-Class Gem Deposits” by Peter Lyckberg; “The Milpillas Mine, Sonora, Mexico: A Modern Bonanza” by Evan Jones; “Mining Crocoite in Tasmania” by John Cornish; and “Fakes and Forgeries in the Mineral World” by Justin Zzyzx.
