I’m delighted to say that Celestron, the Los Angeles manufacturer of high-quality telescopes, will partner with Astronomy magazine at the upcoming 2015 National Conference of the National Science Teachers Association in Chicago. The event will take place at McCormick Place on March 12–15.
On March 12, I’ll be hosting a workshop, “Digital Microscopes 101,” in which teachers will share their real-world experiences using Celestron digital microscopes in grades 4–12 classrooms. I will share images of mineral specimens from my collection made with the Celestron Micro Fi digital microscope. This event begins at 2 p.m. in McCormick W475a.
The following day, I’ll jointly host a session along with Robert Marshall, former program developer for the Buhl Planetarium in Pittsburgh. This workshop will focus on teaching astronomy during the day and beyond the classroom and will highlight hands-on activities plus ways to host star parties and outdoor events. A trivia contest will then enable teachers to win a Celestron telescope, a year’s subscription to Astronomy magazine, and a signed copy of my book Comets! This session will take place March 13 at 8 a.m. in McCormick W184a.
