I’m sad to mention another loss in the amateur astronomy community: Robert “Barlow Bob” Godfrey, a fixture at the Northeast Astronomy Forum (NEAF) for more than a decade, always pushing to show kids and adults alike views of the Sun, died last week.

“Barlow Bob was the Johnny Appleseed of solar astronomy,” says Phil Harrington, a friend and longtime contributing editor to Astronomy magazine.

Friends and colleagues who saw him at NEAF this year say he seemed his normal self and are shocked at his death.

He will be missed at NEAF and in the cause of solar astronomy.
