For those of you UK astrophotographers looking for a great opportunity, I want to pass along an announcement I just received from the UK National Photography Awards. This year's awards include an astronomy category, judged by one of England's most famous astronomers, Lord Martin Rees. I've included the full announcement below, and I encourage those eligible to participate. Good luck!

UK National Photography Awards announce Lord Martin Rees as guest judge for Astronomy category
The UK National Photography Awards, open to amateurs, students and professionals, offer a great platform for talented photographers to gain exposure and recognition for their work and provide a stepping-stone for new photographers to help launch their careers.
The awards are open to entries every month and images achieving Bronze, Silver, Gold or Diamond award status are announced on the 10th of each month. Award-winning images benefit from gaining National award-winning status, and all award-winning images throughout the year will automatically be entered into the relevant category of the annual "Photographer of the Year" awards.
This year one of the award categories is Astronomy, and the NPA have recently announced that Lord Martin Rees, world-renowned cosmologist, astrophysicist and official astronomer to the Queen, will be guest judge for this category.
Later in the year, three finalists in each award category will be selected and invited to attend the annual Awards Ceremony, where the winners of each category will be announced and presented with their awards. As well as gaining a coveted National POTY title, winners will be presented with prestigious award trophies and prizes. Says Professor Martin Rees: “The beauties of the night sky have been admired by all cultures throughout human history. I’m delighted to be a judge and look forward to seeing some beautiful images.”
In addition to the monthly awards there are also regular themed competitions. This month's (March) themed competition is "Northern Lights."
