You may have heard that the astronomy world’s own rock ’n’ roll band played live at the ALCon meeting in Chicago this past July 7, the first time such live entertainment has occurred at a national amateur astronomy meeting. The Astronomy Magazine Blues Band consists mostly of members who work for Kalmbach Publishing Co., Astronomy’s publisher, as follows: Megan Bobo, vocals; Steve Kryscio, vocals, guitar, and saxophone; Keith Bauer, guitar; Jeff Felbab, guitar; Mike Soliday, bass and vocals; Ron Kovach, Hammond B3 organ; and Dave Eicher, drums and vocals.

During our show in Chicago, my 19-year-old son, Chris Eicher, filmed the event. Chris is studying chemistry at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, but when he hasn’t been busy with the usual stuff for a 19-year-old, he’s been editing the show videos into finished form.

Here I can present the first two from the show that night, Tom Petty’s “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Green River.” Many more of these video clips to come!
