A couple weeks ago, Alan Traino, the driving force behind the Northeast Astronomy Forum in New York, announced he was planning a significant astronomy and telescope expo for Tucson, Arizona. Slated for November 10–11, 2012, the Arizona Science and Astronomy Expo will feature commercial exhibits; the availability for visitors to purchase telescopes and related astronomy products from around the world; lectures by astronomers, astronauts, and television personalities; and many other activities. It’s planned to be an annual event.
Astronomy magazine is proud to be a sponsor of the new event, now known as ASAE. This first Tucson show takes place during the travel period for many astronomers who are going to Australia to see this year’s big total eclipse. So, Michael Bakich, Rich Talcott, and I will not be able to attend this year, as we’ll be 7,600 miles away. But Jeff Felbab of
Astronomy’s advertising department and some other folks from the magazine will be there, so if you attend ASAE, please stop by and say hello to them.
The show will be held at Tucson’s downtown Convention Center, the venue familiar to many meteorite collectors as the host of the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show each February. Among those who will participate in the show thus far are astronauts Donald Pettit and Story Musgrave, astroimager Adam Block,
Meteorite Men Geoff Notkin and Steve Arnold, and Steele Hill, media specialist from NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory.

Wish I could say “see you there,” but maybe I’ll see you in Australia!
