A terrific sequence of eclipse shots made by Sharon and Gene Cisneros in San Jose, California.
I’ve been absolutely amazed this week at the crossover of folks who have been in touch from two separate but allied worlds — astronomy and mineralogy. You may have seen
mineralogist John Veevaert’s blog about the eclipse a few days ago, and now I’ll present you with another great photo shot by someone from the mineral world.

Sharon and Gene Cisneros of San Jose, California, own and operate another big mineral dealership, the
Mineralogical Research Company. Also stoked with a passion for the stars, they enjoyed shooting the eclipse last weekend, and I present here their fabulous composite image of the event.
Sharon and Gene used a 4-inch fluorite refractor at f/9, a white-light filter, and a Canon D7 camera. As they were shooting the eclipse, a goat that belongs to one of their neighbors got loose and wandered up the street, seemingly interested in what was happening. “Lots of neighbors were out in the street trying to catch the goat and watch the eclipse,” said Sharon. “Gene finally put a rope around the goat’s neck, and we led him back to the neighbor’s yard where he belonged.”

You never know what an eclipse will bring.
