We are pleased to announce that Astronomy magazine has won a top award for editorial excellence in FOLIO: magazine’s prestigious annual competition.

The results were announced this week for FOLIO:’s Eddie and Ozzie Awards competition, the largest of its kind for magazine publishers. A panel of media executives and FOLIO: staff judge the entries, evaluating them based on creativity, innovation, and “proven success in aligning [a magazine] brand’s mission with the end product.” (The Eddies honor the best work in editorial, the Ozzies the best in design.)

Astronomy won an Eddie Honorable Mention for its February 2013 issue in the consumer-magazine automotive/enthusiast/hobbyist full-issue category. In this category, FOLIO: judges recognize “overall editorial excellence … based  on a publication’s mission or editorial statement.”

Motor Trend won the category and Fine Books & Collections took home the other Honorable Mention.

“It’s gratifying to place so high in a national competition,” Astronomy Editor David J. Eicher said. “I think it’s a real tribute to the editorial and art team that works so hard on our magazine. An awful lot of planning and execution go into a technical magazine of our type and it’s nice to see it recognized.”
