Having finally caught up on the work I missed attending the 2010 Northeast Astronomy Forum (NEAF), I’m now getting ready to fly to Miami to cover the 216th American Astronomical Society (AAS) meeting. While it will be a little more “sciencey” than NEAF, I’m still looking forward to hearing (and blogging and tweeting) about the latest discoveries in astronomy and astrophysics. The meeting will be in conjunction with the Solar Physics Division of AAS, so that and new data from the recently launched Solar Dynamics Observatory promise to keep the Sun particularly in the limelight.
This trip is extra exciting for me because I lived in Florida for my high school years and most of my family and many friends still live in the Fort Lauderdale area, so it’ll be a bit of a homecoming visit. And because it’s my first AAS meeting, I’ll be glad at least to know the terrain and not feel completely on new ground.
I only wish it were still cold here in Wisconsin, to better help me appreciate Florida’s sunny weather. But that’s OK — I’ll still take it. So be sure to check back to the Astronomy.com blog next and week and follow the conference on Twitter (@AstronomyMag).
