The Hercules Cluster (M13) sketched by Phil Harrington on April 22, 1988, with a 13.1-inch f/4.45 reflector at 87x. David J. Eicher library
Out of my newly found cache of astronomical drawings (which had resided in a box in my basement for the past 20 years) today comes a sketch made by Astronomy magazine Contributing Editor Phil Harrington. Phil drew the Hercules Cluster (M13) with his 13.1-inch reflector in 1988 and noted it as a “beautiful globular cluster with stars resolved across the disk. Four distinct ‘star arms’ were noted, as were two nearly perpendicular ‘dark lanes.’"
