Astronomy magazine columnist Stephen James O'Meara sent us an image he took while observing the Orionid meteor shower. Here's the message he sent along with the image:
"Despite the last-quarter Moon on October 21st, the Orionid meteor shower put on a good show over Hawaii. Between 2:30 am and 3:30 am Hawaiian standard time, I counted 20 meteors. They ranged from magnitiudes –1 to 4th. Many were colorful (yellows and blues), and the activity came in waves. The most memorable moment was when six swift meteors burst into view in six seconds! That's the Double Cluster in Perseus, BTW, that the meteor is moving past. Very nice."
Very nice, indeed, Steve. Thanks for sharing!
We're always eager to see and share fellow hobbyists' astrophotos, and we have a variety of options to do this:
- Astronomy.com's "Picture of the Day," is one of the site's most popular destinations, and for good reason. It gives astrophotographers a chance to show off their work, and it gives people generally interested in astronomy something to marvel at. To submit images to Picture of the day, attach them to an e-mail sent to kferron@astronomy.com. Make sure you include in your e-mail, the date, location, equipment, and methods used in taking and processing each image. Submitted images may be used elsewhere on Astronomy.com or in Astronomy magazine.
- The magazine's "Reader gallery" features beautiful images from astrophotographers every month. To be considered for Reader gallery, send your images to: Astronomy Reader gallery, P.O. Box 1612, Waukesha, WI 53187. Please include the date and location of image and complete photo data: telescope, camera, and exposure information. Submit electronic images by e-mail to readergallery@astronomy.com.
- Finally, at Astronomy.com Reader forums' discussion thread "Your astrophotos" you can post, peruse, and discuss astrophotographs.
