The Silver Streak Galaxy (NGC 4216) lies in Virgo on the western edge of the Coma-Virgo cluster of galaxies. Also known as the Weaver’s Shuttle Galaxy, NGC 4216 shines at magnitude 10.0 and is four times as long as it is wide.
The name “Weaver’s Shuttle” comes to this galaxy from the astronomy popularizer George F. Chambers (1841–1915), who revised famous observer Admiral William Henry Smyth’s 1844 classic, Cycle of Celestial Objects, in 1881.
