Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) 2014

The Whirlpool galaxy is actually two interacting galaxies one of which is a grand-design galaxy and is ~30 million light-years distant in the constellation Canes Venatici. It’s distance from us and the amount of interaction between the two galaxies has been debated now for some time. The latest information indicates that the two galaxies are interacting.
