Tomorrow, I’ll be on the road again as I travel to Camp Billy Joe near Kenton, Oklahoma, to speak at the 30th annual Okie-Tex Star Party. This is one of the best dark-sky events in the country, and the Oklahoma City Astronomy Club, led by members including Mike Dennis and David Higgins, has a battery of large Dobsonian telescopes on hand. The event, which began on September 28, will run through this coming Sunday.
My talk, "Comets: Visitors from Deep Space," will be the last, taking place at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, after which the Great-Okie-Tex Giveaway, a slew of door prizes, will begin.
Many other talks are lined up for the next few days. They include Kerry Magruder on Johannes Kepler; Bill Romanishin on Hilda and Trojan asteroids; John Bozeman on
PixInsight processing; Dave Cotterell on observing in the Atacama Desert; Terry Trees on observing solar system moons; and Jack Eastman on tiny telescopes. And, of course, there will be plenty of fun, socializing, and observing under an extraordinarily dark sky.
