Arp 41 consists of NGC 1232, the large spiral and NGC 1232A (ESO 547-16 and others), the small galaxy just to the left (east) of NGC 1232. While Arp has this one in his, ‘Spiral galaxies with low surface brightness companions on arms,’ NGC 1232A appears to be much further away than the 72 million light-years for NGC 1232. These are located in the corner of Eridanus, above Fornax.
Luminance – 15x600s – 180 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2
270 minutes total exposure – 4 hours 30 minutes
Imaged on August 30th and September 25th, 2022 at the Danville Conservation Area (New Florence, Missouri) with a SBIG ST-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT90EDT at f/6.7 603mm.
