Sharpless 271 + 272

Sh2-271 appears to be the brightness HII region at the center of the image. Simbad shows this one further left (east). This one is approximately 12,700 light-years away in Orion.

Sh2-272 is the smaller HII region located approximately 16,200 light-years away. Like Sh2-271 above, this was also first suspected to be a planetary nebula.

Ha – 27x1800s – 810 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2

930 minutes total exposure – 15 hours 30 minutes

Imaged December 23rd, 25th and 26th, 2020 and January 9th and 12th, 2021 at Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm.
