NGC 4228 (NGC 4214, UGC 7278 and others) is a dwarf barred irregular / starburst galaxy located approximately 10 million light-years away in Canes Venatici. While similar to the Small Magellanic Cloud, is it both larger and brighter.
UGCA 276 (PGC 39145 and others) is the very faint galaxy near the bottom right corner. It appears to be a dwarf speroidal but I could not find any information.
Luminance – 24x600s – 240 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2
360 minutes total exposure – 6 hours
Imaged over nine nights in June and July, 2018 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm.
