Spiral galaxy M101

This is an image of M101 in monochrome. This is a spiral galaxy about 21 million light years away in the constellation Ursa Major. While devoid of the color usually seen with this object, this image shows the remarkable contrast and detail that can be obtained with just the luminance filter.

Location: Dark Sky New Mexico
Telescope: Planewave CDK-17
Camera: Apogee CG16M
Mount: Paramount ME
Luminance: 27x20 minutes (binned 1x1)
