Arp 279

Arp 279 consists of NGC 1253, the wild spiral and NGC 1253A (MCG-01-09-019, VV 587 and others), the smaller irregular, low-surface brightness galaxy interacting with it. Both galaxies are located approximately 66 million light-years away in Eridanus.

Luminance – 24x600s – 240 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 12:9:9x300s – 60:45:45 minutes each – binned 2x2

390 minutes total exposure – 6 hours 30 minutes

Imaged October 10th, 11th and 25th, 2016 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm.
