I have imaged the Soul nebula (IC1848) on a few occasions and really do like it in wide field. Having a new Orion Optics ODK10 I was thinking about targets and thought that some of the Soul nebula, that was in a good position as well as having some really interesting structures would be worth a look! I settled on IC1871, to me it looked like a massive rift was tearing through the image, something that is not obvious with the shorter focal lengths. I knew that the Soul nebula in general responded well to narrowband filters so decided on a Hubble palette. I was very taken with the amount of blue in the image over all as there seemed to be so very little OIII that was mapped into the blue channel. The data was a joy to work with and the processing time was remarkably short in comparison to my usual efforts!
