M109 is a barred spiral galaxy 84 million light-years from Earth. This image is the result of a collaborative effort between Sean Curry in Talent, Oregon and Rod Pommier in Portland, Oregon. We both began imaging M109 on the same night. Due to deteriorating weather conditions in Talent, Sean was only able to obtain luminance data. Weather remained clear in Portland for a while longer, permitting Rod to obtain RGB data. By re-sizing and rotating Rod's RGB data to match Sean's luminance data we were able to combine the two data sets into this this completed LRGB image of M109.
