The great nebula in the constellation Carina is a large and bright nebula surrounding several open star clusters. The star Eta Carinae is one of the most massive stars in the Milky Way galaxy. Eta Carinae is over 150 solar masses and shines over five million times brighter than our own Sun and is expected to explode into a hypernova in the near future. When it does it explode, it, like the Crab nebula supernova (1054 AD) will be visible during the day light hours. The Carinae Nebula is about 10,000 light-years distant and was discovered by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille in 1752 from the Cape of Good Hope. Imaged from Siding Springs, Australia.
