A spectacular view in the sky was created on 10 December 2011 which stopped onlookers as the moon started getting eclipsed and then turned red. As moon came back to its original state and color, the same events were repeated, but in reverse order . In comparison to a Solar Eclipse, a Lunar Eclipse can be seen over a larger area of the earth and the moon remains in the Umbral shadow for a longer duration due to the massive shadow cone of the Earth. As the sunlight passes through the Atmosphere of the earth, it undergoes scattering and refraction, giving rise to a fine cone of red light rise to the characteristic Dark Red color. The eclipse took a total of 212 minutes and the shadow moved at a speed of 2,300 mph or 1 kilometer per second.
The moon and also the Sun also change color as they rise and set due to Atmospheric scattering. This can be seen on a regular basis but is not to be confused with an eclipse on the Moon. Both the phenomenon are visible in photograph as the moon rises and as it gets eclipsed.
This photograph has been taken at Ahinsa Sthal ( the place of non-violence ) located on the peak of a small hill in New Delhi, India
It is a peace monument with a single piece marble statue of Mahavira, a Philosopher and Mathematician in 550 BC.
