The steady trek of Comet Garradd across the stars of Sagitta is shown in this sum of 36 3-minute exposures taken 24 Aug 03:15 UT - 05:13 by Richard Schmidt at the Burleith Observatory in Washington, DC. Schmidt used a 32-cm PlaneWave CDK astrograph and SBIG STL-1001E CCD with Kron-Cousins I filter. At this wavelength two hours of urban light pollution has little effect.
The field of view in this image is 25.8 x 25.8 arc minutes.
In a bright star field like that of Sagitta, stacking images aligned on the comet tends to obliterate the comet with so many bright star trails. In this image, stars were aligned using CCDsoft.
The comet is currently in the western part of the constellation Sagitta, at about 7.3 magnitude and slowly brightening.
