Messier 27 was the first ever discovered Planetary Nebula by Charles Messier in 1764. It also is the larger object of its type. The brightest part spreads out in 6 arc minutes, covering an area of approximately 2.4 light years.
The region is illuminated by its central 13.5 magnitude star. The visible glow iis generated by atoms excited by the mentioned dying star's intense ultra violet light. M27 is the type of Nebula our Sun will produce when nuclear fusion stops in its core.
The image was taken from Buenos Aires, Argentina using a 8 “ Celestron SCT at f6.3 and a QSI 583 WS with Baader filters for a total exposure time of 110minutes.
