At over 13 billion years old, Messier 5 in Serpens is one of the most ancient globular clusters known. It is equally as majestic as it's neighbor, M13, only slightly dimmer at magnitude 7.0. M5 was originally discovered by Gottfried Kirch in 1702 and again by Charles Messier in 1764. This 2 hour image was taken on May 20, 2009. The temperature was 72° F.
