August 2016 issue
Our loss could be your gain. Our wonderful Associate Editor Korey Haynes has given her notice at Astronomy magazine, as her better half (husband) has accepted a job in the Twin Cities. So we regretfully will let her go, and will lose Korey as a staff member in mid July. (She will continue as an active contributor to the magazine, though — so you will continue to see her byline.)

This means the magazine is seeking an associate editor right away. Please see the press release below, and go to the following link if you are interested in applying.

Kalmbach Publishing Co. has an outstanding career opportunity for an Associate Editor at Astronomy, our award-winning science title, published 12 times a year, with a circulation of 100,000. The Associate Editor serves a crucial role in editing and creating science content for all extensions of the Astronomy brand, print and digital.

Associate Editors assign, write, and edit feature stories, magazine departments, columns, news stories and Web content, and oversee coverage of specific science topics based on her or his interests and expertise. Associate editors also develop and maintain productive relationships with top freelance science and magazine journalists and work with other staff members ... including the art department and the Web team ... to conceive and develop high-quality science content. Associate Editors are involved in digital content of the brand, with specific involvement in creating, editing, and maintaining materials for Astronomy's website and social media reach. Experience with web-based content, social media posting and outreach, and digital delivery of astronomy content will be an important part of this position.

Associate Editors may also serve as ambassadors of the brand, representing Astronomy at science and technical conferences and other events of editorial interest. Associate Editors are also involved in the hobby of astronomy, and should have a good working knowledge of the sky, of using telescopes, and ideally should have some experience with astronomy outreach ... bringing astronomy and the night sky to the public.
