NGC 2261 (Ced 83, LBN 920, Caldwell 46 and others) is a nebula located approximately 2,609 light-years (http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/sim-ref?bibcode=2006ApJ...653..657M) away in Monoceros. The clouds of dust are illuminated by R Monocerotis.
