Arp 214 (NGC 3718, UGC 6524, VV 1449 and many others) is a warped SABab Seyfert galaxy located approximately 52 million light-years away in Ursa Major. Arp added this one to his “galaxies with irregularities, absorption and resolution” class. It is suspected that it is interacting with the Arp 322 below it.
Arp 322 is the chain of four galaxies below Arp 214. From north to south, this includes PGC 35620 (Mrk176, UGC 6527, VV 150 and others), PGC 35618 (VV 150b and others), PGC 35615 (VV 150c and others) and PGC 35609. These along with the edge-on north to south PGC 35631 make up Hickson 56.
NGC 3729 (PGC 35711, UGC 6547 and others) is the galaxy to the left (east) of Arp 214.
Luminance – 28x600s – 280 minutes – binned 1x1
RGB – 8x300s – 40 minutes each – binned 2x2
400 minutes total exposure – 6 hours 40 minutes
Imaged January 23rd, 24th and 26th, 2018 from Dark Sky New Mexico at Rancho Hidalgo (Animas, New Mexico) with a SBIG STF-8300M on an Astro-Tech AT12RCT at f/8 2432mm.
