The Orion Nebula (M42) & The Running Man Nebula (NGC 1977)

The Orion Nebula is a massive cloud of gas and dust around 1,300 light years from Earth and is located in the constellation of Orion. It is around 25 light years across and is the closest star forming region to Earth.

The Orion Nebula is a hive of star forming activity, as a result, it has given us a greater understanding as to how stars are formed.

The Orion Nebula is actually part of a much larger nebula known as the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.
