At magnitude 8.00, The Gumball Globular is one of the more faint clusters in Ophiuchus. At one time, it was considered to be a "closely-packed" open cluster rather than a globular. M12 was discovered by Charles Messier on May 30, 1764 and lies approximately 16,000 light-years away from Earth. This image was captured on June 13, 2009. The temperature was 75° F. It is a total of 45 minutes exposure time.
