I captured this prime focus shot of M42 through a friend's piggybacked Orion ST102 f/5 achromatic refractor and my Canon EOS Digital Rebel DSLR on the night of 2006/1/27.  The location was a private observatory north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  Noticeable chromatic aberration was present around the brighter stars so I cropped and enlarged the original photo.  This is hardly the best photograph of the Orion Nebula ever taken but it does have a rather nice impressionistic look I think.  North is up in this picture.
