    What Am I seeing?

I have a Celestron 6" dobs. While viewing Jupiter with a 25MM lens I saw a fairly bright fuzzy patch within the same field of view. That was about two weeks ago so I checked again tonight and it is still there. Could this be astroid Helena? I never viewed an astroid before so I'm not sure how they appear in a telescope.

Asteroids were so named because the look star (aster)-like.   Only a few of them ever get brighter than 7th to 8th magnitude and none of them resemble fuzzy patches.

You may have been seeing a reflection of the planet.  There are no bright nebulae in the vicinity of Jupiter at this time.

    William,

If there is a background light source (i.e. a streetlight, the moon ect...) then sometimes you may see the reflection of the light source off your eye in the eyepiece. I have had that happen on numerous occasions while viewing with a nearly full moon when it's high up and there's no place to move the scope for cover.
