    birthday star

hey guys. today is my birthday 8-8-08.. I thought it would be fun and try and check out my birthday star which is δ (Delta) Capricorni. This star's distance from Earth in light years is equivalent to my age.. Has anyone else done this on their birthday???? I know I sound nerdy...

    Mine is 51 peg.
But that is just a gimmick which can be fun for some people giving them something to seek out in the night sky. Not necessarily nerdy. There are other gimmicks I would consider a waist of time and more nerdy than that.

I've never looked up my birthday star, until now. Mine is θ (Theta) Bootis.

How would you do it. I'm barely out of the Local neighbourhood at 20.

There are a few web sites where you can go and enter your date of birth and they will tell you a star that will matches for you,   This year! it won't be the same next year.
I't''s just a gimmick that might be fun to play around with giving you something in the night sky to hunt for.  At least those web sites aren't after your money like those that say they can name a star after you..

Even a gimmick is worth trying sometimes.

Any links or suggestions, or should I wait until Dave 'the link master' Mitsky looks at the thread?

    Re: birthday star

     Thanks.

Turns out to be Delta Pavonis, a yellow dwarf like the sun.

It's a little young really at 19.9 Ly. My star should be 20.2Ly
