I feel like registering on this site is akin to joining a 12 step program.  Hello, my name is John.  I am a stargazer.

What do you mean you don't have anything clever to say? That's the funniest thing I heard all week! My reply........Hello John........

I've never been to a 12 step program, but that's how they do it on T.V. I am addicted though, and this is my support group. There are many people here that can help us. But now they tell me the only two cures are death and taxes. I guess I'll take the first one. I've never said this before, but welcome to the forums. Glad you got that first step out of the way.(errrrr...admitting you have a problem)

Hi, I am from MO and have 3 telescopes.  I am a seasoned observer, a former member of the American Meteor Society, have articles published in national magazines on telescopes, have taught astronomy appreciation for credit for field trips on astronomy for private school children, and am currently president of the Webster County Astronomy Club and team leader for the Astronomy Club on sparkpeople.com.

I spend a lot of time viewing deep space objects (nebulae, galaxies, star clusters, etc.) and occasionally planets. My husband and I have even repaired telescopes and we both like to tinker with them to make them better.  Last week I was left a Bushnell 78-3650 to see if I could make it usable and it is usable now.Now that is a story in itself!

It is good to find people with like interests.

I am semi-retired from teaching music lessons and running our music store,

Hi; I am a 60 something old dude in North Carolina who is a VERY amateur astronomer. I just love the solitude of searching the night sky with my old 8" dob. I am disabled with MS and can just barely handle the scope anymore, but I still spend countless hours looking for the beauties of the universe. Just wanted to say "Hi" to you folks and listen in on the chatter.

to the forums Ron. Come on in and sit a spell, listen in all you want and don't be afraid to drop a line now and then on your interests or even throw in an observing report if you've a mind to.

I would like to take this opportunity to say hello to everyone, and introduce myself to you all from near London, England.

I am a complete novice who has had an interest in the stars and space but never perused it till now. I'm looking to buy a telescope soon, and in my search for information on what to buy I came across yourselves, and am here to gain knowledge of astronomy and the tools used to make it all possible.

There appears to be some marvelous minds on here, a great source of information, proud to be a member.

Looking forward to speaking with you all at some point and picking your brains.

Good Afternoon,  I want to thank all of you who have shared salutations and greetings.  You have made a neophyte feel as one with you.  Astronomy has always been a passion of mine.  The night-sky, a silent, awe-inspiring, beautiful, lover who is always there, to provide solace.  I have been away too long, and am gratified to have found like minded "children of the night".  May our association be  educational  and enjoyable

Hey, I look forward to some lively discussion. I have tried with other discussion forums, but they generally are unable to accept differing opinions and views. Unfortunately astronomy is a religion with many folk, especially regarding the "Big Bang Theory". I have a new theory i would love to discuss. One that covers all the bases, and set s the stage for a unified theory, and does away with the need for dark matter. But I want to be sure to post it in the proper place... so as not to offend anyone, which in the end may be unavoidable, considering the religious following of the BBT. any help is appreciated:) i better qualify my opinion. When i say religious, I mean: Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary: "a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith."

Hello, just joined a few minutes ago.  I have been interested in Astronomy since I got a junk department store telescope back in the early 60's.  Every now and then over the years I would resubscribe to Astronomy mag and attend a local star party in the Valley Forge PA area, but just never had the time and money to invest in getting into the hobby the "right" way.

Now that the kids are grown and gone, it is a good time to get going.  I happened upon a copy of "The Backyard Astronomers Guide" in Barnes and Noble last month, bought it on a whim, and got all kinds of excited.  I hadn't realized that the state-of-the-art in telescopes had leaped forward AND had gotten more affordable.  The local telescope shop in Pottstown PA (Skies Unlimited) had an expo a little while back which I attended.  Got to meet Al Nagler...kind of cool.

Currently researching telescopes (I have a pair of 7x50 Orion binocs that I bought 15 years ago) for a good startup.  I'll be wandering around this forum for some equipment feedback.
