    Double fly by

I was out tonight with my neighbors watching the fly by of the space shuttle and the space station, While they watched with the naked eye, I tracked the ISS with my 8" dob and web cam. After the ISS disappeared behind the trees, I did something very foolish. I closed the camera software without stopping the camera first. You can probably guess what happened then. The video I had taken wasn't saved. It was lost completely. One stupid mistake, and the best images I have ever captured of the ISS were down the toilet. You can bet that I will mark this down as a learning experience, and will never make that mistake again.

We did get to view the moon, M82, Saturn, Mars, and a few clusters so the night wasn't a total loss.

Don't you just hate it when that Happens?

I though about trying to get some pictures of the flyby last night, but the clouds changed my mind.

That's a shame Kevin. Does that make it 2 outta 2?

    Good luck next time.

Yeah that was two failed attempts.

The thing was, my neighbor saw the space station zip through the screen, and said it looked as if it would have been an awesome image. My haste in seeing what I had captured led to the brain failure of closing the program, to open Virtual Dub, before stopping the video capture. I guess it will be a few weeks before I get another decent opportunity. I'm determined to get an image of this thing though. Some night, everything will fall into place and work flawlessly... even me. LOL

Distracted by the neighbors you were!  Yeah, that would make a good story to use Kevin.  I am truly sorry you had another mishap in the image department.  It not only deprived you of your "Kodak" moment but we too lost out as I am sure the pictures would have found there way to this website.

    Tomorrow is another day,

    L
