    Posting photos for dummies..........

As the subject above indicates, I need someone to walk me through [step by step] the process of posting an image in the forum.  Please don't assume I know anything........for instance how do you tag an image?  etc. etc.   Again, I need a basic [for dummies] guide.   I have no clue where to start.

Thanks!!   Any help will be greatly appreciated.   I used to post images by simply 'attaching' them to a post.....like attaching one to an email.  Apparently that no longer works.

Hi WABarry     First you need a place like this to upload your pic to, http://photobucket.com/ sign up there and upload your pics from your comp,  then get the pics address and then post that address here.

First post your photo to a photo hosting web site like Photobucket or Flicker.

Then click on photo to enlarge it, then right mouse click on the image and select "Copy image location".

Return to forum post and click on the tiny tree icon at the top of the post. Paste the image url into the line that says image url. Click on next line to name it. Then click insert.

    Hope this helps.

    JJ,

Well, I tried.  I copied and pasted the address of the two photos [Flickr.com] but there are no photos, just X's.   What did I do wrong?   I told you I was a dummy.  LOL

    Help,

What web browser are you using? I use Firefox and have no problems with copy and paste. Another way to post an image is going to take some typing. After you have copied the image location paste it in to the post then in front of it type [img] and at the end of the image url type [/img I left the closing bracket off of the last part or it would have treated the text as an image. It should look like this:

    [img]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2110/2244411613_dbab427734_m.jpg[/img}

use ] to replace the } at the end of the line

See if that works for you.

I am going to pm you

I post my pics at photobucket.com. After i upload an image it gives me 3 or 4 addresess. I click on the last address they give me to highlight it, then right click and copy the address, come to this forum and paste the address. I dont click on the tree. Just paste the address where you type then after u submit the image should be there...

    Re: Posting photos for dummies..........

I appreciate everyone's attempts to help, but something is still wrong.   I am using a Windows Vista machine and my browser is Internet Explorer 7.

When I right click on the photo in Flickr, there is only a "copy" command.....no reference to a "location".

    The url is http://flickr.com/photos/barrypics/2248916105/

When I clcik on the little "tree" I can paste that url into the url box.  Once I paste it in, should I then add the prefix and suffix?  Should it look like the url below?

    Thanks,

    Re: Posting photos for dummies..........

That info helped. For Vista And IE explorer you would click on the picture source. Then click on the properties line. Then in the properties popup copy the information  for ADDRESS (URL). Paste that info in the Tree icon on address url line.

Well lets see some posts with pictures now!

Posting images here is so antiquated  and convoluted it's not worth the effort.

Who ever chose this "cs" forum and server must still be in a basement somewhere using win3.1!

Posting images here is not as hard as you would like for us to believe, and there are a couple of ways it can be done.

Using the image tags:Image by Tkerr

Or by simply using the image insert button at the top of the text box:

Both images were posted using those procedures, and as you can see, with no problems at all.

    Re: Posting photos for dummies..........

Okay......in case anyone else is having problems posting photos here, these are the steps I needed to take:

    1. Uploaded my photos to flickr.com   I assume other photo sites will work as well.

    2. Left click on a photo you have uploaded to Flickr to enlarge it.

    3. Right click on the photo

    4. Highlight the photo's URL

    5. Right click on the URL and click COPY

    6. Open the message window in astronomy.com

    7. Click on the little "tree" icon

    8. Right click on the URL line and hit PASTE

    9. Click on the INSERT button

Maybe there is an easier way, but that is what I have to do.  True, it's not all that hard to do once you figure it out, BUT......it used to be much easier and faster.......just had to "attach" a photo to your post.....right out of your computer's "pictures" file.  Not sure why they changed it to require you to upload your photos to another location first.

    Re: Posting photos for dummies..........

I forgot one step in the previous post.   In step #3, you right click on the photo and then click on "properties".  Then....highlight the photo's URL.

If I am not mistaken, Flickr just like photobucket and a few others provide a variety of links that you can use. One of which is the one that you want to use for web forums such as this. It would be the one with the [IMG] Tag / BBCode. All you should need to do is copy that link then paste it into the body of your message here.

    Hi WABarry-

Thanks to your great thread and the knowledgeable people who responded, I too finally understand how to attach pictures in my posts. After all is said and done, though, I miss the old tried and true 'attach photo' button. The sites makeover is great, but the simple things that worked for so long (such as clicking on the 'attach photo' or 'delete post' button) ended up on the cutting room floor.

    Hi there,

I am glad it helped.   And I agree with you 100%.   The old system was certainly faster and easier.   I haven't navigated around the entire site yet, but so far I don't see all that much improvement.    Although it's probably there if you know where to look.   The veteran users are probably pleased with it.
